Everyday Care Guide for Your Homeware Essentials

There’s something special about the everyday pieces we use and love, from a favourite morning mug to soft bedding and practical bags that come with us everywhere. The good news is that with a little care and attention, these items can stay looking beautiful for years to come.

At Sophie Allport, we believe looking after your homeware shouldn’t feel complicated. A few simple habits can help maintain quality, colour and comfort, so you can continue enjoying your favourite pieces every day.

If in doubt, always check the full care guide on our website.

Caring for Your Mugs

Whether you prefer the delicate elegance of fine bone china or the reassuring feel of stoneware, a little extra care will help keep your mugs looking their best.

Fine bone china is wonderfully lightweight and refined, so it's best handled with care and protected from sudden temperature changes. Stoneware is naturally more robust, but careful handling will help preserve its finish and appearance over time.

Many mugs are suitable for everyday convenience, including dishwasher and microwave use, but care instructions can vary between products.

For tips on how to remove tea and coffee stains from your favourite mugs you can read our blog here.

Every product is unique, always check the individual product care instructions on our website for the best advice.

Kitchen & Table Linens

From tea towels and napkins to table runners and tablecloths, proper care helps keep fabrics soft, fresh and vibrant.

For both cotton and linen products, we generally recommend washing at 30°C and separating light and dark colours where possible.

Try not to overload your washing machine, as fabrics need space to move freely for the best cleaning results and to help maintain their softness. Do not dry clean or tumble dry.

For the best results, always refer to the care label on your product or our online care guide.

Looking After Your Bags

Our make-up bags, wash bags and everyday bags are designed to accompany you on life's adventures, so a little maintenance goes a long way.

Many of our cotton wash and make-up bags can be machine washed at 30°C. If your bag features decorative tassels, remove these before washing. Avoid tumble drying, bleaching and dry cleaning to help preserve the fabric and finish

Keeping bags clean, emptying them regularly and storing them carefully when not in use will help them stay looking their best for everyday use.

As always, check the care guidance provided for your specific product before cleaning.

Caring for Faux Flowers

Artificial flowers require very little maintenance, but there are a few simple ways to keep your blooms looking fresh.

  • Use a hair dryer on a cool setting every now and again to gently blow away dust.
  • If you notice any marks on the blooms, use a damp cloth to remove them.
  • For more delicate flowers, such as tulips, lilies and magnolia, use a soft, clean cloth when removing stains.

It's also a good idea to dust faux flowers regularly and avoid prolonged direct sunlight to help minimise fading.

Bedding, Cushions & Throws

Soft furnishings help create a welcoming home, and regular care can help them stay comfortable and beautiful.

Rotate cushions and give them a shake regularly to help maintain their shape. Follow the care instructions for washing bedding and cushion covers to keep fabrics soft and colours looking their best. Tumble dry on a low setting, do not bleach or dry clean. For best results, iron whilst damp on a warm setting. For more information on how to wash our cotton bed sheets to keep them soft, read our blog here.

When not in use, store cushions and throws in a clean, dry space to keep them fresh and protected. Always refer to the care label, particularly for throws, as incorrect washing or drying can cause shrinkage or damage.

Pet Accessories

Our four-legged friends deserve comfort too, and regular care helps keep their accessories fresh and inviting.

Pet mattresses, throws and bedding benefit from routine washing to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Always check individual product labels for guidance on covers, fillings and any specific cleaning requirements.

Following the recommended care instructions will help ensure your pet's favourite resting spots stay comfortable for longer.
