Sophie Allport Paint FAQs
Finding the perfect shade for any space is made easier by our water-based, low VOC, and low-odour paints. Available in a matt or eggshell finish, they are also free of solvents and are certified Child Safe and vegan, making this eco-paint good for both humans and the planet.
What Type of Paint Should I Choose?
Generally, matt emulsion paint is used for walls and ceilings while eggshell paint is used for woodwork and metal. Our matt emulsion offers great coverage and depth of colour and is especially good at camouflaging small wall bumps, cracks, or other imperfections. Which leads to the question, what is eggshell paint? Unlike matt emulsion, it has a slight sheen and is perfect for updating kitchen cupboards, radiators, skirting boards, doors, and furniture.
Should I Prime Walls Before Painting?
When using our paint, you don’t need to use a specific primer on walls. Instead, we recommend that you spend time on prep. You want to give yourself the best possible surface for the paint to stick to. Paint won’t adhere properly to surfaces that are dirty or dusty; ensure you check all your walls, and sand, seal, and clean with sugar soap where needed.
Do I Need to Prime Before Painting Wood Furniture?
For furniture that is already painted, you will need to identify if this is a water (paint) or oil-based (waxes or varnishes) coating. For those pieces that are oil-based, you will need to apply a suitable primer to ensure our eggshell paint adheres. If the pre-painted wood isn’t glossy then you can sand and clean it, before applying eggshell paint directly. New wood will require a specialist primer to seal any knots.
How much paint do I need?
A question that troubles even the most seasoned DIY-er! As a guide to help you in the first instance, a 2.5L tin of Sophie Allport paint is perfect for 25m2. So, divide your square meter requirement by two and this will give you the number of tins you need. Don’t worry though, even if you estimate it wrong, we can get more to you quickly and easily.
How long does it take for the paint to dry?
Our paint is “touch dry” in 2 hours and completely dry in 4 hours, where you can then move furniture back into your room or apply a second coat.
