Celebrating the British Royal family 2016

Here at Sophie Allport, we love the Royal Family. Our beloved Kate and Wills, their gorgeous royal infants, and of course the Queen and Prince Phillip. But why are we so enamoured with them as a nation? Well, the Royal Family represents all that’s wonderful about being British. They’re an integral part of our national identity, and are a thoroughly deserving recipient of our collective adoration… after all, what other monarchy boasts excellent manners, exquisite taste, generous spirit and a can-do attitude like the British Royal Family?!

If you love them as much as we do, you’ll be pleased to know that the spring and summer of 2016 is a time bursting with celebration. If you fancy joining in the joviality and excitement of birthdays and anniversaries, here’s everything you need to know…

Dates for your diary:

  1. 21st April: Her Majesty the Queen is celebrating her 90th birthday, and what a marvellous 90 years she’s had. Queen Elizabeth is Britain’s longest reigning monarch having spent 63 years on the throne and has won the hearts of the nation after a lifetime of a diligent commitment to her duties. Events will be taking place in April, May and June to mark the fact that she’s the first British monarch to celebrate such a landmark birthday, and you can head to Castle Hill on the day to join the fun. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh will be greeting members of the public, so be sure to bag yourself a space in line if you’d like to wish the Queen a happy birthday in person. 2. 29th April: This date marks the fifth wedding anniversary of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge. We can hardly believe that five years have passed already. In fact, here at Sophie Allport, we’re still gushing over the Duchess’ beautiful lace gown and her arrival at Westminster Abbey to meet her dashing Prince. And, with two children, a calendar of overseas visits and lots of charitable work, we expect the Royal couple are probably as astonished as we are that half a decade has slipped by. What a whirlwind! 3. 12th May – 15th May: To further Her Majesty’s birthday celebrations, we’re pleased to learn that a major event will be held on a similar scale to that of the Diamond Jubilee. Unfortunately, all 25,000 tickets have now sold out (as have the balloted tickets which were released in February), but you can catch the final night in a two-hour long broadcast on ITV. Ant and Dec will host the celebrations, and viewers can expect to enjoy theatrical lighting, beautiful processions and perhaps even a horse pageant. Celebrating the British Royal family in 2016
  4. 2nd May and 22nd July: The 2nd of May marks Princess Charlotte’s first birthday, and the 22nd of July sees Prince George turn three. We suspect the Royal infants’ parents will have missed their lovely children on their recent tour of India (we know we’d long for our children here at Sophie Allport if we were away), but doubtless, they’ll be looking forward to marking their birthdays in the summer months. We’re considering rustling up some traditional jelly and ice cream, joining in from afar.Celebrating the British Royal family in 2016

Phew! After all that celebrating, the team here will be sitting back and relaxing with a mug of tea from our Sophie Allport commemorative range, recharging in quintessential British style. What about you?
