Sophie’s Tips for the Perfect Christmas Table Setting in 2023

Sophie's Tips

Christmas table inspiration

At Sophie Allport, we're all looking forward to a special Christmas of feasting and festivity, and there's no denying the fact that Christmas lunch is the highlight of the day. We're going to make it special and one to remember, a time when we can switch off the outside world and enjoy a few merry moments. Given that so much hard work will still go into preparing the meal, shouldn’t your Christmas table setting be a feast for the eyes too? From flickering candlelight to festive table runners & cloths, here’s how to create the perfect Christmas table setting…

Start with a table runner

A Christmas themed table runner provides a stylish backdrop. Stretching down the length of the table, it anchors your setting, creating a seamless flow for your cutlery, crockery and decorations.

Choose your placemats & coasters

Next, lay out separate place settings by distributing placemats and coasters. To create a table fit for Christmas feasts, invest in a special seasonal set.

Add stoneware

We truly indulge on food at Christmas so having a selection of serving dishes, plates and bowls on your table for serving and eating is a must. Dotting the occasional Christmas designed dish around your table really adds that little extra something to your setting. Who wouldn't love uncovering a charming festive scene after pinching the last mince pie? You'll use these special pieces of stoneware time and time again throughout the festive season.

Invest in quality cutlery

Okay, so this one isn't just for your Christmas table.... it's more than that. Quality cutlery is an investment that will serve you well for years. We've collaborated with the award winning cutlery folks Robert Welch to bring our customers a timeless and elegant set of the finest stainless steel pieces. Nothing elevates the experience of food quite like a luxury set of cutlery. Be sure to polish them for extra shimmer and shine before positioning them on the table and consider laying them in napkins, tying them with festive red ribbon to be unwrapped like a gift.

Add greenery

For a traditional Christmas table setting, you’ll need some greenery. Add some festive faux greenery arranging it generously down the length of your dining table, winding it around tall candles and serving plates. A tangle of winter berries will lend charm and Christmas cheer, and spray painted pine cones in gold or silver for an added bit of sparkle.

Finishing touches

Finally, napkins and crackers. Our Christmas crackers come in matching designs to our table linens and stoneware and are ideal for tying together your Christmas table setting. Napkins are a thoughtful, stylish and elegant touch to elevate the meal and help guests protect their Christmas jumpers and their favourite frocks.

Hopefully, these steps have given you a little bit of inspiration for your Christmas table setting this year. What style are you going for? Show off your table setting on social media using #SophieAllport - it would be lovely to see what you’ve created!
