A little bit about Sophie Allport Limited

Sophie Allport - About Us 2011

Sophie Allport was brought up in Potterhanworth, just oustide Lincoln, with her brother Jem. She was at school in the city and later went to Leeds University where she graduated in 1994 with an impressive first class honours degree in Graphic Art and Design, specialising in Illustration.

Following her degree, Sophie was asked to join a world renowned illustration agency in London where she worked closely with many famous clients producing illustrations for books, magazines and wine labels – and who said you can’t mix business with pleasure?

In 1996, Sophie was invited to demonstrate her skills at the Country Living Fair in London and decided to have a few of her illustrations made into cards and limited edition prints. they proved a sell out and Sophie has become a stalwart of the Country Living Events since.

During this time Sophie married and started to have children, so her career to a bit of a back seat. She now has three boys and moved out of London in 2008 to her home in the countryside near Oundle in Northamptonshire.

The Family Business

Sophie's brother Jem joined her in 2007 and Sophie Allport Limited was born. As a qualified chartered accountant, Jem has supplied the business acumen and drive to expand sourcing and sales of the Sophie Allport range, leaving Sophie free to focus on design and prouct development. The business is based just outside of Stamford, Lincolnshire and employs family members including Jem, Sophie, their mother Mary, Jem's wife Chloe, Jem and Sophie's cousin Chris and a couple of family friends and now some friends of friends too.

The Product Range

Fabrics:

'Chickens' Adult Apron

Since starting the business, Sophie has designed six beautiful fabric ranges; 'Busy Busy Bumble Bees', 'Gingerbreadmen & Cupcakes', 'Sailing Boats', 'Strawberries & Cream', 'The Good Life' and the recently launched 'Chickens'. The fabrics are also available by the metre and are also available in the shape of aprons (Adult, Teenage and Child), oven gloves, tea towels, peg bags, napkins, aga covers, carrier bag holders and everyday bags to name but a few.

Fine Bone China:

Sophie has designed a stunning range of fine bone china. The china can be purchased within sets (for example there are 3 butterfly design options) meanwhile, the different china ranges are all designed to compliment each other. Products include mugs (available in Standard & Large), jugs (available in Small, Medium and Large), egg cups, side plates, bowls, cups and saucers, jam/honey pots, teapots and tea tidies. New additions recently launched in 2011 are the 'Butterflies', 'Chickens' and 'Little Ladybirds', with extensions to the 'Busy Bees' range. All of the fine bone china is decorated and finished in the UK in Stoke on Trent.

'Sailing Boats' Melamine Set

Sophie's children's melamine sets have always been a popular purchase. Currently available in 'Sailing Boats' (we are currently out of stock of our 'Fairy' set), the sets include a mug, bowl, plate, knife, fork and spoon.

Noticeboards: The noticeboards are sold as standard sizes but can be made-to-order in any size or shape. Available in all of the Sophie Allport fabrics and made in Fotheringay Village by a friend of Sophie's.

The Royal Wedding Mug:Sophie designed a stunning commemorative Royal Wedding mug for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, featuring illustrations of crowns, wedding bouquets, champagne, champagne flutes, some gorgeous wedding bells a rather memorable engagement ring and some very British hearts! The mug was incredibly well received and there were numerous positive features in the press. The business was inundated with demand from the UK, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and America. OK! Magazine headlined a feature on Sophie's design as 'Oooooo a Prince William and Kate Middleton Royal Weding Mug we actually WANT!'
